The role

On the VISUAL platform at NEXT-AI TECNALIA, we are looking for a researcher with experience who will contribute to a strategic goal that connects perception (spatial) with advanced experience and interaction: turning the ability to observe and understand the physical world into intelligent, simulable and actionable environments.

Our work is framed within the Virtual Worlds initiative, research that spans the complete cycle from the capture and reconstruction of objects, people, and environments, through understanding and reasoning about what is observed, to interactive simulation, immersive interaction, and the prediction of future scenarios. Within this framework, three capabilities are especially decisive: spatial intelligence, interactive simulation, and generative and predictive modeling.

The team works on solving challenges posed by companies in different sectors and domains of activity (industry, energy, construction, health, ICT,...). The rapid advancement in foundational vision models, multimodal architectures (VLMs, VLAs), and world models (e.g., JEPA, COSMOS) is redefining what is possible in perception, spatial reasoning, and interaction, and opens a unique window for scientific-technological development in the coming years. Therefore, we seek professionals with a passion for researching, training, growing, and applying their knowledge to transform the perception of the environment into actionable experiences of impact.

What you'll do

They will develop client and R&D projects with the support of other Tecnalia teams and the network of collaborating institutions: universities, technological centers, entrepreneurs, and companies.

They will lead the scientific and technological part of the projects, guiding the team and validating the developed solutions.

They will participate in the definition of the VISUAL scientific-technological strategy in alignment with other Digital teams and the application objective in different sectors.

They will participate in the generation of new business opportunities by collaborating in the preparation of the technical approach for proposals and offers to respond to the challenges posed by our clients and R&D calls at national and international levels.

They will participate in workshops, scientific publications, and national and international reference conferences.

You will promote collaborations with other groups and researchers at regional, national, and international levels.
